The UnPreterist: Take It From the New Guard

For the longest time, it was just a few of us fighting against hyperpreterism from the INSIDE.  Sure, Dee Dee Warren of PreteristBlog.com had been fighting the heresy and she should be commended for the great work she has done, but she wasn’t ever really within the movement.  But what is strange is a new crop opposing hyperpreterism has come to the fore.  Lots of ex-hyerpreterists such as Jason Bradfield (who left before his mentor Sam Frost by the way), Sam Frost and some others.  This new crop, perhaps at the instance of PaulT (PreteristBlog’s new mouthpiece) is called the “new guard”.  PaulT likes to call me the “old guard”.  That’s okay I guess since the Bible says “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls.” – Jer 6:16a.

Besides the “new guards” AREN’T saying anything different than the “old guards” have been saying all along. For example, I said:

  1. Hyperpreterism is NOT Christian, and now we see PaulT saying it here and Sam Frost here.
  2. Hyperpreterism MUST be first fought on its presuppositions, and now we see Ken Talbot saying it here and Sam Frost saying it here.
  3. That the apostle Paul was preaching the same physical resurrection as the Pharisees, and now we see Jason Bradfield saying it here and Sam Frost saying it here.
  4. That most of the hyperpreterist premises including their constant use of the word “preterist” to describe themselves is misleading, and now we see Sam Frost saying it here.  (specifically, I addressed hyperpret John Hedges here BEFORE Sam Frost makes the SAME points)

So the “new guard” is merely using the things we have been saying all along.  Perhaps they simply have the blessing of the established elites and that is the reason that when they say it, it is somehow supposed to be different. Or maybe they are too proud and puffed up on themselves to actually give anyone else credit for what they think they have “single-handedly” accomplished. Oh well, God can use whatever vessels He wants.  The result will be the same.  I just find it ironic how the “new guard” acts like these are their ideas.  So be it.
